CHAPTER COMMITTEES

Bylaws 

The Bylaws Committee makes sure that the chapter’s constitution falls in line with the rules of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). Committee activities include 1) reviewing, revising, and updating chapter bylaws every five years and as needed and 2) incorporating changes from NBNA bylaws to those of the chapter.

Education, Scholarship & Mentoring

The Education, Scholarship, & Mentoring Committee meets quarterly and as needed to 1) develop, review, and update SEPABNA scholarship forms; 2) identify and bring educational resources to SEPABNA and the community; 3) promote education and mentorship activities with the membership and the community; 4) review SEPABNA scholarship applications for eligibility; and 5) sponsor educational and mentorship opportunities for SEPABNA and the community (i.e., CEU events, guest speakers, webinars, etc.)

Health Policy 

The Health Policy Committee (HPC) gathers nurses to support legislation to address community needs by engaging and collaborating with legislators and policymakers. The HPC harnesses the power of nursing to effect change by 1) educating nurses on health policy issues; 2) developing and disseminating primers on key focus areas; 3) meeting with elected officials; and 4) engaging with the community members, nurses, and legislators through diverse means of communication (i.e., social media, email, texting, etc.).

Marketing and Fundraising

The Marketing & Finance Committee works in conjunction with the SEPABNA membership to increase chapter finances to support the work of SEPABNA, sustain chapter viability, and fund academic scholarships; as well as to widely promote SEPABNA, its causes, and the nursing profession. Activities include: 1) promoting community awareness of the nursing profession and the diversity of nursing roles and functions; 2) facilitating nurses’ education and professional advancement; and 3) encouraging the recruitment and retention of people of African descent into the professional and academic pipelines through increased education attainment, advancement, and certification.

Membership

The Membership Committee works along with the SEPABNA membership to promote the work and benefits of NBNA/SEPABNA membership. This committee hosts events and activities aimed at showcasing the accomplishments of current members, engaging with prospective members, and reconnecting with past members.

Sunshine

The Sunshine Committee works to put a little “sunshine” in the lives of SEPABNA members by acknowledging celebratory events (birthdays, weddings, graduations, career advancement), sad occasions (loss of loved ones), and just because (thinking of you). This committee is funded by in-kind donations and chapter funds.
